1910. El rey Lear, del italiano Giuseppe de Liguoro.

1969. El Rey Lear (Korol Lir, Grigori Kozintsev). La mejor adaptación de esta obra de Shakespeare es esta película rusa, en blanco y negro, con decorados esenciales y una sobriedad de espacios en un paisaje duro e inhóspito. Se ha convertido en un clásico.

En pleno desierto africano un grupo de personas extraviadas y en condiciones límite, intentan montar la obra «El Rey Lear», pero sus problemas les obligan a interpretar cada uno su propio papel.

2001. El Rey de Texas. (The King of Texas), de Uli Edel, La tragedia El rey Lear, en western. Un magnate que pide a sus tres hijas que le demuestren su amor para heredar las tierras.

2002. My Kingdom, de Don Boyd. La tragedia «El rey Lear» en el Liverpool actual, narra la caída de un anciano capo de la droga. El papel principal lo interpretó Richard Harris, en su último papel.

1911. Macbeth. Británica, muda, protagonizada por Frank Benson.

1914. When Macbeth Came to Snakevilla.

1916. Macbeth. Británica, muda, dirigida por Beerbohm Tree.

1948. Macbeth (Orson Welles). Esta fue la primera incursión cinematográfica de Welles en el mundo de Shakespeare, siendo probablemente la mejor adaptación de esta obra que se ha realizado. Orson Welles la rodó en un tiempo récord, improvisó los vestuarios y aunque fue un gran fracaso en su tiempo de crítica, público y económico, es una maravillosa película.

1957. Trono de Sangre (Kumonosu-Jo, Kurosawa). Ambientada en el Japón medieval es la historia de un Samurai, Taketoki, que incitado por su esposa y por el espíritu de una bruja conspira junto con su compañero y amigo Yoshiaki para asesinar al Señor.

1962. Lady Macbeth en Siberia (Sibirska Ledi Magbet, Andrzej Wajda). Wajda rueda en Yugoslavia esta película sobre las deportaciones a Siberia en la época de los zares.

1970. Cabezas cortadas (Glauber Rocha). Se rodó en España y se estrenó en 1979 en Brasil, país del director, perteneciente al movimiento «cinema novo». Esta versión libre de «Macbeth» contra las dictaduras está protagonizada por Paco Rabal, Emma Cohen y Luis Ciges.

1971. Macbeth, de Roman Polanski. Un producción inglesa.

1983. Macbeth, de Jack Gold. Reino Unido.

1987. Macbeth (Claude d'Anna). Filmación de la ópera de Verdi, basada en «Macbeth».

1991. Hombres de respeto (Men of respect, William Reilly). De William Reilly. Una moderna versión de gángsteres.

1998. In the Flesh (Stuart Canterbury), con la acción situada en un retro-futuro con castillos y coches, esta película para adultos está basada en Macbeth. Destacan la producción artística y la escena inicial, con las tres brujas alrededor del caldero.

1999. Macbeth X, de Silvio Bandinelli, «Macbeth» adaptado a nuestros días en una película pornográfica rodada con gran lujo.
